Cast Iron Skillets & Pans by Lodge

Lodge has been perfecting cast iron cookware for generations. Its skillets and pans get the very best out of what cast iron has to offer. As a material, cast iron is extremely tough and able to handle all heats in the kitchen. This makes cast iron an excellent, versatile material suitable for ceramic, gas, electric and induction hobs, oven temperatures up to 260°C, and outdoor campfires and barbecues.

Lodge’s cast iron skillets and pans are typically very thick and heavy; their dense structures mean they retain heat incredibly well for consistent, even cooking. This makes them ideal for searing steaks, crisping chicken, sautéing vegetables and baking picturesque loaves of bread.

Lodge’s cast iron cookware also comes “pre-seasoned” meaning it’s ready for use immediately after unpacking. The process of seasoning occurs in the final stages of manufacturing. The cast iron cookware is sprayed with vegetable oil then baked at a very high temperature. This creates a non-stick surface, shields the cookware from rusting, and keeps food contact with the iron of the cookware to a minimum. Due to the easy-release nature of Lodge’s pre-seasoned cast iron, the cookware becomes better with use and can last forever if looked after properly.

In more recent years, Lodge has developed enamelled cast iron cookware. By combining porcelain enamel with its master-crafted cast iron, Lodge now offers pans and skillets in a wide range of colours and styles. The enamel surfaces produce impressive heat retention, are non-stick, and are suitable for marinating and refrigerating food.

Lodge Cast Iron Skillets, Pans & Griddles

Lodge Cast Iron skillets, pans and griddles are available in a range of styles and sizes, suitable for a variety of purposes.

Lodge Cast Iron Skillets in the UK

The Lodge cast iron skillet collection is widely regarded as one of the best on the market. All skillets come equipped with Lodge’s pre-seasoned cast iron, giving them a natural, non-stick surface. They are fantastic retainers of heat making for even, consistent cooking.

Lodge’s Round Cast Iron Skillet varies in size from as small as 3.5 inches to as large as 15 inches in surface diameter. Every Round Cast Iron Skillet is made in a circular shape out of tough cast iron. The skillets are manoeuvred using a robust, easy-grip handle offering complete control and hanging storage possibilities.

The smaller skillets, such as the Lodge 3.5 Inch Cast Iron Skillet, 5 Inch Cast Iron Skillet and 6.5 Inch Cast Iron Skillet are perfect for frying eggs, baking individual cookies or pancakes, and are ideal for use as a serving plate on the table.

The medium-sized skillets, such as the Lodge 8 Inch Cast Iron Skillet, 9 Inch Cast Iron Skillet and 10.25 Inch Cast Iron Skillet excel at sautéing vegetables, cooking even omelettes, and baking pies.

The larger skillets, such as the Lodge 12 Inch Cast Iron Skillet, 13.25 Inch Cast Iron Skillet and 15 Inch Cast Iron Skillet are essential for family dinners, appropriate for one-dish sharing meals, roasting a whole chicken and searing a big batch of steaks.

Alongside the Round Cast Iron Skillet, Lodge manufactures skillets in a plethora of other styles. Some of the variations available in the UK include the Lodge Cast Iron Deep Skillet and the Square Cast Iron Skillet.

Lodge Cast Iron Pans in the UK

Lodge’s cast iron grill pans exemplify the robust, heat-retaining properties of Lodge cast iron cookware. The grill pans are available in the UK and come in a range of shapes and sizes.

The Lodge 10.5 Inch Square Cast Iron Grill Pan fits seamlessly into any professional or home kitchen. The ribbed, pre-seasoned surface prevents food from sticking to the pan while allowing fat to drain away from the bottom of any food. The surface retains and distributes heat evenly and marks food with mouth-watering grill marks. The Lodge 10.5 Inch Square Cast Iron Grill Pan is most effective at cooking meats and vegetables like asparagus. The square shape offers a large surface area with heat encapsulated in the corners so every aspect of the pan can contribute to the cooking.

Lodge’s Round Cast Iron Grill Pan comes in two forms: the 6.5 Inch Round Cast Iron Grill Pan and the 10.25 Inch Round Cast Iron Grill Pan. The 6.5 Inch Round Cast Iron Grill Pan performs well at cooking smaller meals and side dishes. The 10.5 Inch Round Cast Iron Grill Pan offers more room for cooking larger meals including meats, vegetables and paninis. Similarly to the Square Cast Iron Grill pan, it leaves tantalising grill marks on all food and allows fat to drain away.

The Lodge Dual Handle Cast Iron Grill Pan is available as a 10.25-inch pan and 12-inch pan. Its two handles offer enhanced control for manoeuvring around the kitchen or transferring from barbeque to picnic table. It maintains a phenomenal amount of heat and leaves grill marks on food for the perfect barbecue effect. The Lodge Dual Handle Cast Iron Grill Pan is versatile, working on a variety of foods such as shish kebabs and seafood.

Lodge Griddles

Lodge’s Cast Iron Griddles can handle any heat in the kitchen or the outdoor campfire. They are extremely durable and possess remarkable heat retention and distribution. Lodge’s Cast Iron Griddles can be purchased in the UK and are available in a variety of forms.

The Lodge Reversible Cast Iron Griddle embodies versatility at its finest. On one side, the Lodge Reversible Cast Iron Griddle has a pre-seasoned, ribbed surface, capable of transferring heat to the food, whilst draining any fat away from underneath. Once flipped over, the Lodge Reversible Cast Iron Griddle displays a flat, smooth pre-seasoned surface. This griddle is a fantastic space-saver and a crucial tool for cooking hearty breakfasts.

Lodge’s Rectangular Cast Iron Griddle is available in two forms: the 11.5 x 7.75 Inch Rectangular Cast Iron Griddle and the 15 x 12 Inch Rectangular Cast Iron Griddle. The rectangular shape fits flawlessly along the top of the stove; it is best heated using two hobs at a similar temperature for impeccable heat retention and even distribution. The Lodge Rectangular Cast Iron Griddle is designed with raised edges to prevent any oils, juices or other ingredients from escaping. It can be used on the stove or the barbecue and is great for preparing fish, like salmon and vegetables, like bell peppers.

The Lodge Round Cast Iron Griddle can be purchased as an 8-inch or 10.5-inch variant. It possesses a naturally non-stick surface with raised edges to precisely contain any oils or batter. It also has an easy-grip handle, making transportation around the kitchen an easy feat. As well as producing a restaurant-quality sear, the Lodge Round Cast Iron Griddle fits seamlessly on the table as a serving dish. It is best presented with a tall stack of pancakes or brimming with sizzling fajitas.

Lodge Dutch Ovens

Lodge’s Dutch ovens are built to last and capable of tackling almost any recipe. The cast iron material is pre-seasoned meaning Lodge’s Dutch ovens are immediately ready to go and improve with use. The ovens are easily manoeuvred using two solid handles at either end and topped with a heavy-duty lid to prevent any heat from escaping.

The Lodge Cast Iron Dutch Oven range contains products that vary in capacity and purpose. What remains consistent is their ability to absorb high levels of heat for consistent cooking; the shape of Lodge’s Dutch ovens encourages heat to travel from edge-to-edge.

The Lodge 1 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven (0.95-litre capacity) is perfect for small dishes like a single-portion macaroni and cheese or an individual pot pie.

The Lodge 2 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven (1.89-litre capacity) is ideal for winter warmer soups, a comforting loaf of sourdough bread or a seafood stew.

The Lodge 5 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven (4.73-litre capacity) is great for large, slow-cooked family meals like a coq au vin or scalloped potatoes, and desserts, like soufflés.

The Lodge 7 Quart Cast Iron Dutch Oven (6.62- litre capacity) is the ultimate sharing tool. It is fantastic at drawing friends and family around the table, brimming with delicious short ribs, a whole roast chicken or a giant Mexican chilli.

Lodge’s Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Ovens bring a range of vibrant colours to add a whole new dimension of flavour – satisfying the eyes as well as the tastebuds. The enamel surfaces produce impressive heat retention, are non-stick, and are suitable for marinating, refrigerating, cooking and serving food. Unlike Lodge’s Cast Iron Dutch Ovens that are made in the USA, Lodge’s Enamelled Cast Iron Dutch Ovens are made in China.

Lodge Carbon Steel Pans & Skillets

Lodge’s carbon steel pans and skillets are lighter than cast iron, making them easier to manoeuvre around the kitchen. Unlike cast iron, they are very good conductors of heat so heat up extremely quickly. They also cool down at a faster rate but do not retain heat as well as cast iron. Lodge’s carbon steel skillets and pans similarly come pre-seasoned, offering a naturally non-stick surface.

Lodge first released its carbon steel products in 2013 meaning they are relatively new in comparison to its century-old cast iron products. The current range of Lodge carbon steel cookware includes the Lodge Carbon Steel Skillet, Lodge Carbon Steel Griddle, Lodge Carbon Steel Grill Pan, and Lodge Carbon Steel Pan.

Caring for your Lodge Cookware

Every piece of Lodge cookware has the capacity to become a family heirloom and continue to be used in the kitchen forever. While this may be true, it will only become possible with the correct care. Follow this three-step guide to keep your Lodge cast iron cookware clean and in the perfect condition to last.

Step one: Wash your Lodge cast iron cookware by hand using a brush of your choice. Your cast iron cookware may be pre-seasoned, but this doesn’t mean it’s hard to clean. Simply use warm water with a tiny amount of soap if needed. If you’re struggling with any stubborn food, leave the cookware under warm water for a few minutes, then scrub off the residue.

Step two: Dry your Lodge cast iron cookware as soon as possible with a lint-free cloth. Ignore any black residue on your cloth/towel as this is likely just seasoning, which is normal.

Step three: Once dry, rub a very light layer of cooking oil (vegetable oil, for example) over the surface of your Lodge cast iron cookware. Ensure there is no oil residue by rubbing a paper towel gently over the surface of your cookware. This process of re-seasoning helps the cookware maintain its natural non-stick surface and last for a lifetime.

The Lodge Cast Iron story

In 1896, Joseph Lodge, founder of Lodge Cast Iron, began making cast iron objects, including cast iron cookware from his foundry called Blacklock in Pittsburgh, USA.

Blacklock was successful in its production endeavours until, in 1910, a catastrophic fire broke-out, leaving the foundry in ruin. But, inspired by the success of Blacklock, Joseph and his family relaunched the business down the road just three months later as Lodge Cast Iron.

Lodge’s cast iron cookware is made using a classic technique called sand moulding. The process involves pouring a proprietary mix of molten pig iron, steel and other ingredients into a sand mould which holds its shape due to sand’s very high melting point. Once the mixture inside has cooled, the sand mould is broken to reveal a perfectly formed piece of cast iron cookware.

Lodge is dedicated to its eco-responsibility, constantly identifying and applying green initiatives to its manufacturing. As the years have gone by, Lodge has developed recycling programs, invested in pollution-reducing foundry equipment, and minimised its consumption of electricity.

While Lodge has become a favourite to both professional chefs and home cooks in the USA, it is not as well-known as other cast iron cookware manufacturers, such as Le Creuset, here in the UK. Unlike Le Creuset, you won’t be able to find a Lodge Cast Iron UK shop, but you can purchase some of its top products here, at CLNRY.
